Last Updated: March 2026
By commissioning artwork from John Dawson Artist, you agree to the following terms.
1. Commission Process
The portrait process generally follows these steps:
-
You provide reference photographs.
-
Composition and layout may be discussed or approved.
-
The artwork is created based on the agreed concept.
The quality of the final portrait depends greatly on the quality of the reference photos provided.
2. Reference Photos
Clients must ensure they have permission to use any photos supplied for artwork. By submitting photos, you confirm that you have the right to use them.
3. Artistic Style
Each portrait is created in the artist’s individual style and interpretation. While care is taken to achieve a strong likeness, slight artistic interpretation is part of the creative process.
4. Payment
Payment terms will be agreed before work begins.
Typically this may include:
-
A deposit to begin the commission
-
Final payment before shipping or delivery
Prices are subject to change but will not affect commissions already agreed upon.
5. Revisions
Minor adjustments may be possible during the early stages of the artwork. Significant changes after the artwork is substantially completed may not be possible.
6. Refunds
Because portrait commissions are custom artwork, refunds are generally not available once work has begun.
If a commission must be cancelled before work starts, any deposit may be refunded at the artist’s discretion.
7. Copyright
The artist retains full copyright and reproduction rights for all artwork created.
This means the artist may:
-
Display the artwork in portfolios
-
Share images on websites or social media
-
Use the work for promotional purposes
Clients receive the physical artwork only, not the copyright.
8. Personal Use
Commissioned artwork is intended for personal use only. It may not be reproduced, sold, or used commercially without written permission from the artist.
9. Shipping
Shipping costs and delivery times will be discussed when the commission is arranged.
The artist is not responsible for delays caused by shipping providers.
